Each student, each teacher, each parent, each volunteer and each garden is part of a larger system working to ensure that all people have access to fresh and local food across the city and beyond. Navigate through this page to learn how you can be a part of the school gardens in Pittsburgh.
Flagship School Garden Program
We currently work with four flagship schools in the city of Pittsburgh. This is the foundation of our work as we are actively involved in building and maintaining the onsite gardens, providing weekly garden-based lessons and facilitating community events and outreach. Click here to learn more about our history and current program. We are not currently accepting new flagship schools but are continuing to build our Learning Garden School program.
Learning Garden School Program
Grow Pittsburgh and The Kitchen Community have partnered to develop a Learning Garden Program to support more school gardens in our region. Learning Gardens are outdoor classrooms that are adaptable to any schoolyard and are designed to fit the space and needs of each school. In this program, we work with school staff and community for two years to assist in planning and building on-site gardens. We work with teachers to train and host garden classes throughout the season and align garden classes with the school’s mission and curriculum to create a dynamic, sustainable school-specific program.
Please contact us if your school is interested in this program.
